Welcome to Balinesedance.

Hello, I am Ni Madé Pujawati, the director of Balinesedance and I would like to explain what we do.

We are a network of internationally recognized dancers, actors, musicians and singers from Indonesia, who specialize in both the great classical traditions of Bali and Java, and we sponsor new works to encourage cross-cultural dialogue with other dance traditions, Asian and Western, to make performances accessible audiences in the West.

We promote original choreography, musical composition, singing and theatre. We organize single performances and tours of dance and theatre, run residencies and workshops and classes for both beginners and advanced students in different aspects of Indonesian performing arts, which may include history and theory as well as practice. We also specialize in work introducing primary and secondary school children to Indonesian performing arts, which is always popular.

While our main concern is performance, most of our members are also well known specialists in their fields, researchers and lecturers on different aspects of Indonesian performing arts. So we try to communicate the artistic and cultural background to one of the world's great, but little-known, traditions of performance.

Our main activities include: Classical & contemporary performance, tours, residencies and lectures, workshops and classes, residencies, sponsoring and performing new works, cross-cultural dialogue and a forum for discussion and information on Asian performance.
